Hands Up Who's Getting One?

Edge break the story that the UK release for PS3 will be March 23rd and the price will be £425. So you're looking at nearly £500 to play even one game.

So let's see 'em.. Who's in?

For 500 quid? Sony can kiss my ass.

Lemme see...

I only have a PS2 because I fixed Dru's old one.

PlayStations have a history of hardware failure, Sony are notoriously bad at product launches, they burn karma like calor gas, they spent too long patching the fun out of the PSP, the PS3 has already been described as 'dead in the water' and 'sitting on shelves', apart from graphics it's no real innovation, it has no killer app as yet, it's too big, too noisy, too expensive, too Sony.

well, I wont be getting one either. No massive surprises there I guess, being the fi club m$ fanboi, and 360 owner :)

I also invested in the HD drive for the 360, so it makes no sense to start supporting the blue ray contingent.

Rumour has it that capcom has been bought by MS and that MGS will be cancelled for the PS3... snigger.|

There are very few, if any, franchises remaining exclusively to PS3 that I couldn't live without.

I'm glad I never invested heavily in the PS2 (either emotionally or financially) so I don't feel bound or even encouraged to upgrade to a PS3.

me neither - until a game I just can't do without comes out, but nothing springs to mind at the moment...

i for one was a big ps2 fan, and DID invest quite heavily in the console, but am in agreement that sony are indeed alienating themselves from the market by constantly trying (and succeeding) to piss off their customers.
apart from gta and gt4 for ps2 there hasnt been anything thats really 'pulled my chain' 'floated my boat' 'rung my bell' even 'mildly got my attention'in a long time! I even got bored with ffx2 or whatever it was after a couple of hours game play. the same goes for kingdong hearts 2 which i dont think ive even played for an hour yet! and im the sort of person that just plays a game until i finish it - even if it means taking 2 weeks off work...
the psp (that i stupidly upgraded) will soon be able to get cracked and then i can just download whatever the fek i want from sony to try and make some money back from the old days of actually buying real games. im also thinking of getting one of those fancy chip things for my poor ds in the attempt to bring the excitement back into that arena, as it has been kinda shunted to the back of the drawer.
the short of all this is that i will soon be putting my ps2 up on ebay with all games etc. to fund the purchase of a wii, which will last, i think, long enough for me to get bored or until the next 'hey jal why dont you get one of these things' comes along.
anyways some poor sap here is adam ant that hes gonna get a ps3 when it arrives. so i guess i have a new friend to make!! joy of joys.

Edge Online has a look at how the costs stack up.

At £30 more than the Euro version and a brain bending £120 more than the US version I'd say they don't actually stack up. At all.

Is there any fucking rationale at all for the fucking rip-off prices we have to put up with for everything from component cables to consoles? And it's not just Sony-hate here. All three of the bastards have been milking the UK for years.
