Take this with a massive pinch o'salt, but Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi reckons that after GT5 hits the PS3, PD will go on to release GTM. Suuuure they will.
"We're just talking ideals here – but it would be nice if we were able to allow people to compete whether they're on the road or in their living room on the PS3, compete in the same race. Even though the visual qualities will be different depending on which hardware they're on it would be nice if we could allow for that. Technically, we think we should be able to."
I know what would be ideal, how about you just release the fucking game instead of talking about it?

It's a great concept though... multi-platform racing. Historically that multi-platform thing is quite rare. Shadowrun and Q3A (or was it UT-something?) spring to mind.
Would you rather have:
a) GTM next month, as is, no cross-platform stuff or
b) GTM next summer with full cross-platform compatibility?
Would your choice be different if the other platform was the 360?
Honestly, I'd rather have the game now. I never play PSP over infrastructure, the setup is a nightmare and the log in is a pain. For me the PSP is a different beast to the XBox, sure if someone else with a PSP is nearby I'll play ad hoc, but infrastructure play is too difficult to be convenient right now, even at public wireless zones.
I love the idea of having a bunch of cars to keep playing with and modding and improving, kept with me the whole time, that'd be cool.
In answer to your other question - fo sho, if it was cross platform to XBox 360 I'd be there like a shot -- imagine 'Fi Club with one of us (looks at s u d 0) on the 360 and the rest on PSPs -- it'd save all that lugging about.
Tain't never gonna happen tho -- aside from the arch rival console thing, GTM is vapourware. It's been promised now since the PSP was unveiled in May 2004.
