Happy Birthday Dear XBL!

Xbox Live is 5 years old today! Happy Birthday XBL!

To celebrate MS are letting every single XBL user download a free arcade game tomorrow (16th November) so don't forget to sign on and do so. Not sure at this point if it's one particular arcade game, or a free for all. I suspect the former.

Also, as of December 4th we'll be able to download full original XBOX games through the marketplace at a cost of 1200 MicroBucks a pop (that's about £8 in real money.) Launch titles include Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fable.

I might pick up Halo, although I suspect I could get the disk cheaper if I shopped around. Also Psychonauts is well worth a look if you've not played it.

  1. Thanks for the heads-up.

    I wasn't aware of this.

Psychonauts is pretty good and quite strange. I've got it for PS2, if anyone wants a borrow.

  2. Apparently the free arcade game is Carcassonne.

Sucks to be anyone who paid for this previously.

  3. Pfff. Carcassonne. Give us the one game I really didn't want.

I was hoping that the bonus 500 creds would apply to us here in the UK, but my balance hasn't changed yet.

  4. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Gets a 78 on Metacritic. Better than a kick in the nuts.

  5. not really, I trial played Carcassonne and didn't ever play it again.

I think I'd prefer a kick in the nuts -- at least it won't take up space on my hard drive. ;)

Honestly, the way it was worded originally meant it looked like we'd get to choose a free game. If Carcassonne is such a great deal, they could have said "Carcassonne will be free for two days" but instead they left it ambiguous.

A two day window to download an old medieval based strategy game is hardly very Arcadey... who plays stuff like that in an arcade?
