Doo, my advice would be to hold off until you are forced to upgrade unless any of that jazz is givng you a burning yearning.
I want to see if people mention an improvement in battery life before I do it -- every time I flash I worry that I'll brick it, and mine's almost out of warranty now.
I'm stuck on the feeble 2.6, it's buggy, crashes more and you can't downgrade. Wish I'd never gone above 2.5, but the Sony site tricked me (hit 'flash to 2.5' hoping to get some codec or other and it went to 2.6 and I still couldn't play the video in question.)
I'm quite tempted to just go to 2.7 for the hell of it.
You will also be able to boot demos off the memory stick. The first of which is LocoRoco.
I think I will wait for the EU edition of 2.70 though...
Hmm.. according to this it's a worldwide simultaneous release. (slow to load).
This also implies that the LocoRoco download is available in English, or at least the button to download it is.
More now... Eurogamer say it's available on the impossible-to-navigate YourPSP.com but that still says it's 2.6 (although the eBoot has no version number in the filename.)

See, it still shows 2.60.. BUT now I remember this is how I was tricked into installing 2.60 in the first place, as it said 2.52 when I downloaded it before!
Gonna download it on my PC and open it with a hex editor, see if I can find a version number. Also gonna get the US one to see if the filesize is the same.
Confirmed.. it's definitely 2.70. Says so right there in the code.
