I'm very excited about the promised wealth of games heading iPhoneward this summer and beyond. Roughly Drafted have a good long article about the power of the DS, PSP and iPhone, and look at what's coming and who's onboard games wise. Read the article, then jump back here for my take on my iPhone if you're interested.
WB.
For me, I can't recommend the iPhone highly enough. I'm happier with this phone than with any other device I've had before (and you knows I've had a few). As a PDA it's very powerful, with a wealth of free apps and loads of onboard memory.
As a phone it's pretty bomb proof, no more reboots or lock ups, and no lag. It does the phone side of things really well.
The build is stunning, the glass on mine has no scratches at all and the only wear after nearly five months is a limited to a few hairline scratches on the chrome near the port.
It locks onto a wifi signal beautifully, and I watch BBCiPlayer shows before sleep instead of reading books. As I doze off I squeeze the mic on the headphone lead, let the video pause and drop my headphone buds onto the floor. The iPhone shuts off and that's it.
I SSH books and files in and out of it, and I have a huge library on there.
I recently upgraded it from firmware 1.1.2 to 1.1.4 and ran the GUI 1 button click ZiPhone hack on it from my MacBook and it took four minutes to activate the phone, unlock the network and SIM and jailbreak it for all apps. A quick sync with my Mac and all my contacts, music, photos and calendars are on there. Stunning.
I'm still on O2, but with a PAYG SIM installed. I now have bolted on an unlimited Web package and that costs me £7.50 a month with an option to unsubscribe by text up to 48 hours before the next payment. I can resub at any time. All I have to do is make sure I have at least £7.50 on there on my payment day. They give me 300 texts everytime I hit it with a tenner. My BT Broadband gives me hotspot wifi all over the place.
It takes recorded TV from the Mac Mini, I stuff it full of podcast video and my Zinio magazine subscriptions and PDFs work on it.
Add decent games to the mix -- remembering that it has a faster CPU than the PSP as well as custom 3D hardware and Several GB of storage and it's an exciting toy to have in your pocket.
