Deus Ex 3 announced

In an interview with Eidos Montreal's general manager Gamasutra learned that they have just passed the proof of concept for Deus Ex 3.

I hope this is back in the vein of the first, rather than the slightly lacklustre second game. To be honest I'd be happy playing an updated version of the first on my 360.

Ah, the original Deus Ex.

What a totally unexpected joy that turned out to be, and one that I revisited only last year, followed in quick succession the sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War.

Even with my relatively recent PC the sequel suffered some chugging-along issues - it was rightly criticised at release time for the apparent total lack of optimisation. What a joy console gaming can be.

However, the first game set a benchmark for FPS-RPG which certainly wasn't surpassed by the very good Bioshock, and has apparently only been topped in the genre by System Shock 2 (which I haven't yet played).

No Warren Spector on board for DE3, but the potential is almost pant-wettingly exciting, really. Hopefully, by the time it comes out in 2057, I'll have made a bit more progress on the current crop of gaming joy there is to behold.

Given the universal slating that Invisible War received I can't see them making the same mistakes.

I played DE:IW for all of 10 minutes. Even on my powerhouse gaming PC of the time it chugged terribly and spinning on the spot was like playing Myst where you only got to see the cardinal points.

I remember talking daily with Simplicitly about the game. I seem to recall I borrowed it from Blitzoid (of all people!!) If it came out on XBLA, even in its original format I'd snap it up.
