The Big Day

I've been waiting for this for a looooong time.

Last night Nintendo announced the Japanese launch details for the Wii.

Guardian Games Blog has all the details but here's a few of the main points:

Date: December 2
Price: 25,000 Yen (approx £115)
Launch titles: 16 (rumour), including:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wario Ware
Wii Sports
Red Steel
SD Gundam Revolution
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
Trauma Centre: Second Opinion
Elebits
Wing Island

Further details at 1up (including Virtual Console details and game prices - VC is like Xbox Live Arcade with the retro titles); Famitsu cover the launch event; and SeattlePI has a rumour/story about the Merkin launch date.

The Offical WII site has also gone live.

Insert urine-based gag here....

I'm so excited!

£115? its almost rude not to buy one! The back catalog that will be available is huge.

I think I'm in for one as well.

This is THE xmas winner at that price.

I predict we'll be expected to pay something more like £149.99 - £179.99 in this country. Just because.

Yeah, never expect a flat rate conversion of the price.

I'm hoping for £200 with two games bundled (sports and Zelda.)

The SeattlePI article suggests a US release date of 19 November! I can't believe the USA will get a three week head start on Japan!

EU announcement tomorrow, by the way. Expect much disappointment all round for the world's third-class gaming citizens.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a post-Xmas launch in the UK.

I'm betting March at the earliest for us in Europe. I can't see them releasing it in the US before Japan -- surely that'll be an insult to all the hard core ninty Otaku.

Quote from the conference:

" Here's the hard news: Wii November 19th, worldwide debut happens right here in the Americas, same place as Nintendo DS. On Nov. 19th, avail. in 25,000 retailers in the Americas."

nothing said about japan, but the debut will be the states.

If they miss xmas, it would surely be because of a lack of units, no one at nintendo would willingly miss the xmas rush?

Nintendo have never seemed to have much sense with marketing though. :(

Well knock me down with a feather. The US launch has been confirmed as 19 November!

Guardian Games Blog confirms that the Wii will be region free, so I guess that ends all the worry about Euro prices.

Also - they will be making a profit on EVERY unit (unlike MS and Sony.)

Very tempted to import at those prices. I'll have to work out the duty details, or get someone Merkin to send it to me labelled 'gift'.

I must admit, I am likely to wait till after release and have seen reviews/played with one till I am certain of getting one. The accessories push the price up quite a bit.

shall have to see...
