and then hir0 beat me to it with the blueray comment!
I read something a while ago noting that most peoples first DVD drive was in a ps2.
Despite criticism at the time, it formed the perfect intro for the dvd format to the masses.
I personally think it is too soon for any new format. The upgrade from VHS to DVD took something like 20 years (feel free to correct). We have only had DVDs for 8 years ish.
Alot of people haven't upgraded (me included) to HD TVs to get the full blueray (or HD DVD for that matter) resolution on the screen.
In Sony's defence, they have pointed to the fact that it isnt just for movies, and games will benefit massively from the extra storage on a disc.
It will be interesting to see the cost of the 360 HD drive, and compare the package cost against he ps3. I suspect the total cost (comparing release date prices) will should the ps3 will be cheaper.
good point, I like the fact that I can decided not to have the HD drive in the 360.
If MS are clever they will drop the 360 price again for xmas. am sure someone at redmond has thought of this already, before I claim the idea as my own :)

Due to blu-ray shortage. Is anyone convinced about Blu-Ray anyway?
you beat me to it blitz! I was just going to post.
Good news for MS and nintendo, bad news for gamers in general.
Nintendo are going to own Xmas this year.
Despite being the MS fanboi, I cant help but be disappointed by this.
The article points to blueray as the cause for this.

But many people, yourself included, will already have the Xbox 360, especially given that they now have to wait another four months for the PS3.
By the time this thing's out even I'm gonna have an HD TV.
